Start up projects

I have lead and been involved in a number of start up projects, both as new entities and new business units within existing firms.  These are exciting ventures and inevitably high profile in the organisation.They need clear thought and direction both in the venture planning and execution and in their integration with existing activities. 

A start up project will represent a significant investment and a focus on cost and resource as well as the “big idea” is needed if they are to succeed.  It is a big undertaking and involves most areas of the business, including IT, HR, finance, suppliers, marketing so the management of the project needs to be experienced and effective.

Having someone with the sector experience and who has been through the start up process before is invaluable, they can save you time, avoid costly mistakes and deliver a better result. I have the experience to help your start up project either to manage it with you or assist in its development. 

Some examples of my start up project experience:

  • I build VEGA Insurance Services, a commercial broker consolidator from concept to £8m turnover for Primary Group;
  • I developed and implemented the strategy for Swinton’s commercial insurance business working with the Swinton management;
  • I have been involved in the set up of two direct writers: Norwich Union Direct (now Aviva) and The Insurance Service (for Royal), now part of More Than
  • I build the commercial insurance division of Hill House Hammond, introduced a new management team, IT platform and business process that turned a break even division into a 7 figure profit contributor.
  • Numerous smaller projects.
